on the psychology of creativity you should definitely check out syllabus by lynda barry. it’s an actual curriculum (callback?!?!) that she’s set for classes she taught at UW Madison for unlocking creativity through exploring different questions like “is creative concentration contagious?” and “what is an image?”. hope you like it and lmk your thoughts <333

omg I actually bought this book but never read it last winter. I think it would be a great summer read, thanks for putting it on my radar again <3 and thanks for checking out my newsletter!

i’m currently trying to orchestrate a group read-through/exercise-through of this book because i love it so much. it’s genuinely the thing that has gotten me into the psychology of creativity as well and probably has a part to play in me finding your newsletter. i too recently started writing about it and i honestly would love to compare notebooks once you’re done reading, it would make for such a cool creative fall activity hehe (:

so down to compare notebooks once I finish reading it <3

Love this! I'm down in Bellingham and we're planning a long weekend to the Sunshine Coast later this summer ☀️ would love to know if you did/saw/ate anything you'd recommend!

Love that you are exploring the Sunshine Coast, really love it there! Sharing some recs below by town/city I've explored:

Gibssons:

Beachcomber Coffee Company - best breakfast sandwiches and blueberry muffins

Smitty's Oyster House - best oysters everrr

Roberts Creek:

The Gumboot Cafė and then a walk at the beach

Sechelt:

My favorite town! Walk around the pier in Davis Bay and then have lunch at The Wobbly Canoe

Enjoy the Sunshine Coast!!!!!

Thanks for the inspiring article, actually I just started my junk journal for the first time officially next to all my other “normal” journals, but I intend to create this summer and fill it up with memories without traveling but loving where I am ☀️

Love junk journaling, it's one of my favorite activities to decompress and flow! Excited about your summer journaling <3

It is the feeling of ripping paper and reliving old memories and creating a page is such an amazing flow state! 😍

such an incredible list. love the idea of creating an archive! i read so much that it would be such fun to create a journal of sorts with a print of each book (if you want, some recs for books on creative psychology/art thought: Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi and Our Aesthetic Categories: Zany, Cute, Interesting by Sianne Ngai!!)

i've been trying to write letters to friends, even after we've just spent a whole bunch of time together, as a record of the fun we had — for us to look back at years from now

Florencia Ornelas's avatar

Added all your book recs on creativity to my list <3 and on writing letters to friends - you are inspiring me to do that more often as well, I'm thinking that the only time I write to them is on their birthdays when I gift birthday cards.... thanks for the inspiration <3

Woohoo, you’ll have to let me know what you think. Perhaps a we’ll have to do a creative psychology book club!!

I love the idea of picking one theme or topic to explore each month. Real Summer School vibes. Alsoooo- making ice cream and inventing your own ice cream flavor is actually one of the activities in the virtual summer camp I created a few years ago! It's honestly my favorite part of the whole thing.

I've found myself doing many of these things naturally over these past few years, I think due to the fact therapy is working and mindfulness has become a necessary part of my life. I've joined art circles. Followed constellations and the rise and fall of the moon. Slowed down life and made it more simple by bringing less in and protecting my time, space, and boundaries. Thank you for making a list so succinct that I can look at it and be proud of myself but also, romanticizing my city sounds like so much fun.
