I really love and appreciate this because it's so important for us to make time for creativity, even if we don't think it's necessary. Often I have to remind myself to be intentional and carve space for creating, even if it's only a few minutes a day. When I gave myself space to experiment and be in the moment rather than focusing on perfection, it can really turn a mood around and nurture inspiration elsewhere!
I recently bought a small sketchbook to encourage myself to sketch more often, and to have fun while doing it. It's so important to remember that not every drawing has to be perfect, this year I would like to explore more my creativity without judging the imperfections of it. It's all part of the process ! Thanks for sharing this piece, will definitely come back to some of those tips.
Hi, first time reading your post. What fun, I really enjoyed it and it made me think about how being creative is a process within each of us. Thank you for your insight, experience, and giving heart. π
this was such a nice read and some of the tips have definitely inspired me on how to make creativity more commonplace in my life. i've had a weird relationship w my passion for a while now and as a result i haven't created in a really long time, so this essay caught my eye as someone wanting to get back into creating but overwhelmed with how to fit it into my day-to-day. i don't really have a tip to share in the comments, but i did realise what prevented me from creating was just..not letting myself make bad art like you mentioned. placing too much expectations on myself or focusing on the outcome that i couldn't even enjoy the process. also just streamlining tasks really helps! having ur creative space alr set up makes it easier to begin at any moment, and giving myself the "one-sentence" rule (like i'd just write one sentence first and see where i go from there instead of thinking oh i need to write x amount of pages/words) has been helping me get back into journalling too, for instance. thank you for sharing these insights and the templates as well, here's to creating more! <3
itβs so hard to be creative between work full time and studying part-time, so i love the βin betweenβ idea. if we just wait to have a chunk of time to do things, weβll never do them!
I'm in Vancouver!! You're the first Vancouver Substack I've come across. So exciting to meet another local! Thanks for these reminders, looking forward to reading more π€
This is all cool beans. I think teaching too, because I get such inspiration from the cross-pollination of creative ideas. So host a workshop and share what you know.ππΎπΊ
Ooh I love thisβespecially the idea of leveraging the in-between moments (and using that as an opportunity to combat doomscrolling). Taking a lot away from this!
Whoa I think allowing yourself to make bad art is such a great tip to continue the flow of creativity
Itβs where a lot of us get stuck, trying to get it perfect as we start!

Such a great idea! I will also be printing it and putting it on my fridge π€
