Creative Camp: Week Two Recap
In between summer craziness we are still making the time to live a creative life and make things with our hands! Creative Camp is in full swing and you can still join us.

Creative Camp is a self-paced, month-long challenge where we’ll create four crafts alongside the apartmento 710 community. Each week throughout July, I’ll open a thread where we can check in, share our progress, and show what we’ve been working on.
The premise of Creative Camp is simple: To make one project each week in July to get back into the creative flow and leverage this space for accountability to help you pick up an old hobby, finish something you’ve been putting off, or spend at least a few evenings this month making with your hands. Every week I’m opening a thread in the community chat to keep us accountable.
Week two highlights
Momentum was strong and I loved seeing you lean into your curiosity and experiment with new concepts using different materials, making gifts for loved ones and organizing your own crafty dates with friends.
It’s been very inspiring to watch you continue showing up for your creativity in the middle of a move or while balancing all the responsibilities that summer brings. Even with so much on your plate, you’ve continued to carve out time to create, and that consistency has been amazing to witness. I’m moved by all your brilliant DIYs.

Truly in awe of the creativity of this community!
On my end, this week I learned how to do paper weaving, and worked on an upcycling project and turned an old button-down shirt into a notebook cover. It’s going to be my new summer book/journal!
I also finished sewing a set of kitchen napkins, spent some time collaging and dressing a Wuwu doll at an event that my friend Valeria hosted, and made a mixed media zine exploring what “home” means to me after being away from my family for several years.

Never forget that making things with your hands it’s a rebellious act! I'm so proud of everyone for continuing to show up, one DIY project at a time.
Remember, the purpose of Creative Camp is building a regular creative practice, so keep your focus on having fun over making perfect or even practical things.
Use what you already have, borrow, thrift, or swap with a friend, rely on the group for accountability.
Given the success of Creative Camp, I’m thinking about hosting it a couple of times each year! I believe the accountability and encouragement of creating alongside a group can make such a difference. I’d love your input as I plan future offerings. Please vote below to help shape what comes next!

I’ve been thinking on some reflections of this creative camp, I’m really grateful for this space as a reminder to really DO things with your hands!! as a digital designer, even if it’s a creative world I feel a huge difference when I disconnect from any screen and start exploring with materials, shapes and structure. It really activates something in my brain that links to a primal energy of creation hahah something that I really can’t accomplish to that level being a digital designer. It’s through these practices that I can allow myself to explore without any judgement or purpose, just the fun of playing! And then take that energy and put it in my work. Also, as a first time mom, one thing that we really want is stay out of the screens the longest time possible hahaha and with baby, she stays so calm when she sees that I’m building something, I make her participate in a way that she finds certain fun of it, so thank you for unlocking a way to still pursue creation without neglecting motherhood and attention, it’s a cute discovery that I’m sure it will lead to another way of work sooner or later!
